Access Yahoo Mail using Mozilla Thunderbird

Don't have access to the Web, but need your Yahoo Mail? Just access your Yahoo Mail offline using a POP mail client like Mozilla Thunderbird. It's convenient and we have the steps to get you started.

 Make sure you've set up POP access in Yahoo Mail before continuing. Learn how to enable POP access.

Set up Yahoo Mail in Mozilla Thunderbird

Verified through version 31

  1. Launch Mozilla Thunderbird.
  2. Click Email under "Create a new account."
  3. In the "Would you like a new email address?" window, click Skip this and use my existing email.
    - The "Mail Account Setup" pop-up window appears.
  4. Enter your account details as follows:
    • Your name: Enter your name as you'd like it to appear in email.
      - For example, "Jo Bloggs."
    • Email address: Enter your full Yahoo Mail address.
    • Password: Enter your Yahoo Account password.
  5. Click Continue.
    - The pop-up window expands.
  6. Select POP3 (keep mail on your computer.)
    - Thunderbird will display settings for your account.
  7. Select Manual Config.
    - Server settings appear.
  8. Server and port information: Make sure your settings match the Yahoo Mail POP settings and your username matches your Yahoo Mail address.
  9. Click Done.

You'll now be able to receive your Yahoo Mail messages in your Mozilla Thunderbird account.
