Clearing the cache to troubleshoot various issues

This document lists troubleshooting steps for resolving various issues in Yahoo Messenger for Mac, including the following:

  • Issues preventing sign in
  • Dropped IMs in chat rooms
  • Unable to select avatar or display image
  • Avatar / display image not showing
  • Application freezing or crashing
  • Other unexpected behavior

Clearing the Yahoo Messenger cache can resolve many of the above issues.

  1. Quit Yahoo Messenger.
  2. Open the Finder window (click the Mac icon on your dock).
  3. Click your user name on the left side.
  4. Click your user name on the left side again.
  5. Open the Library folder.

Note: The Library folder may be hidden. To open it, hold down the Option key, and then choose Go | Library.

  1. Open the Caches folder.
  2. Drag the com.yahoo.messenger files to the Trash.
  3. Drag the Yahoo! Messenger folder to the Trash.
  4. Click your user name on the left side again.
  5. Open the Library folder.
  6. Open the Preferences folder.
  7. Drag the com.yahoo.messenger files to the Trash.
  8. Drag the Yahoo! Messenger folder to the Trash.
