Add or edit HTML code in a webpage

Editing HTML

To edit an HTML file, head to the Create & Update or Manage tab of your Web Hosting Control Panel and click "File Manager." Click the editor icon HTML Editor icon next to the file's name. The file will open in the HTML Editor, where you can make your changes.

Note that Site Solution and Yahoo Wizards do not support custom HTML. (To explore Site Solution's built-in suite of features, see Site Solution help.)

If you're using SiteBuilder, PageBuilder, or your own site building software, you can add and edit HTML in any of your pages. Learn how to edit HTML in SiteBuilder or PageBuilder.

If you're using PageBuilder or SiteBuilder to create your web site, you can also install certain add-ons from within the tool itself. Learn more about PageBuilder and SiteBuilder add-ons.

To work with your HTML in a third-party tool, please consult that tool's help files.

Inserting Add-Ons

We recommend using the tools in your File Manager to place an add-on in your page. To insert the add-on code:

  1. First view your page and decide where you want the add-on to appear. For this example, we'll add a counter to the bottom of our page.

  2. Visit your File Manager and locate the name of the page (mypage.html, for example) to which you want to add the counter.

  3. Click the "Edit" icon next to the HTML file you'd like to edit.

  4. Take a look at the code displayed in the HTML Editor. You don't need to understand what it means — just look for some key words. Your page might look something like this:

    My Page

I'm going to add a counter to the bottom of this example page.

Since this is the last paragraph, I'll add the counter below.

  5. You can add the code for your add-on anywhere you like between the bits of code, or tags, that look like this: and . These tags mark the beginning and end of the HTML that controls the information displayed on your page.

  6. Since we want to add our counter to the bottom of the page, we'll want to insert the counter code before . We can make sure we're adding the code to the right place by scanning the information just above it. In the example above, we can see that the information above the closing tag displays the last paragraph of content on our page.

  7. Paste the counter code into the HTML Editor in the location you chose, in this case, at the end of the page. Don't worry about making a mistake — you'll be able to review your page before saving your changes.

Since this is the last paragraph, I'll add the counter below.

  8. To review your change now, click the "Preview" button. If you're happy with the change you made, scroll down and click the "Save" button to save your changes. If you want to delete the code you added or make additional changes, return to the editing window and modify your code, or click the "Cancel" button to cancel the change and return to the File Manager.

Important: You can open and edit a page you created with the Yahoo Wizards in the HTML Editor; however, if you edit the page using the HTML Editor, you will no longer safely be able to reopen that page in the wizard. We do not recommend editing a file with a tool other than the one you used to create it (you can identify the tool you used to create a page by examining the icon to the left of its name in File Manager).
