Folders in Yahoo Mail

Stay organized and reduce your Inbox's clutter with Yahoo Mail's folders.

Accessing your folders

Your folders are in a collapsible list in the Left Navigation column.

  1. Click the arrow next to "Folders" to collapse and expand your list.
    • A collapsed list displays a right-pointing arrow right pointing arrow next to "Folders."
      - Click it to view your folders.
    • An expanded list displays a down arrow down pointing arrow next to "Folders."
      - Click it to collapse your list.
  2. Click a folder's name to display its messages in the content area.

+ Adding a folder

  1. In the Left Navigation column, mouse over "Folders" | click the New Folder icon .
    - "Add a New Folder" pop-up appears.
  2. Enter the name of your folder.
  3. Click OK.

  Folder limits: You can create up to 491 personal folders.

+ Deleting a folder

  1. Right-click on a folder.
    • On a Mac, control-click a folder.
  2. Select Delete Folder.
  3. Click OK to confirm.

 Important: A folder must be empty before it can be deleted. See our article about how to delete email for more information.

+ Renaming folders

  1. Right-click on a folder.
    • On a Mac, control-click a folder.
  2. Select Rename Folder.
    - The folder's name becomes editable.
  3. Enter your folder's new name.
  4. Press Enter.

  Good to know: You can also double-click on a folder to rename it.

+ Moving emails to a folder

  1. Select or open the message(s) you want to move.
  2. Click Move.
    - Your folder list appears.
  3. Select a destination folder.

The email(s) will be moved to the folder you selected.

  Another way to move emails: Select messages in the content area, then drag and drop them on to a folder in the Left Navigation column.
