Protect yourself from "phishing" and "spoofing"
"Phishing" and "spoofing" are terms used to describe attempts by fraudsters to pose as a legitimate company or individual to steal someone's personal information, user names, passwords, or other account information.
How fraudsters try to steal information
- They create fake websites to pose as legitimate companies and individuals and send emails that look identical to the real thing: When viewing fraudulent websites/emails, it can be hard to tell you're not interacting with trusted companies and individuals.
- They try to trick you into providing personal information: With their fake websites and emails, fraudsters attempt to get you to disclose your personal information, user name and/or passwords.
