Report spam, hacked accounts, and phishing scams to Yahoo

Yahoo Mail works around the clock to stay one step ahead of spammers and hackers, but fighting them is truly a team effort, and we need your help.

Every time you mark an email as spam in Yahoo Mail, you give us even more ammunition to combat unsolicited messages.


Reporting within Yahoo Mail

+Marking one or more emails as spam

Got spam? Instantly send us all of the information we need to investigate and block the sender while moving the message to your Spam folder.

  1. Select the checkbox next to the email(s) you're reporting as spam.
  2. Click Spam.

  4. Your messages will be sent to your Spam folder.

  Good to know: If you change your mind, select the email(s) in your Spam folder and click Not Spam.

+Reporting a hacked account

Did you receive a suspicious email from a known contact? Report the account to Yahoo.

  1. Select the checkbox next to the email(s) you're reporting.
  2. Click the down arrow next to "Spam."

  3. Click Report a Hacked Account.

The account that sent the email will be reported to Yahoo.

+Reporting a phishing scam

Are you being asked for your password, credit card, or other personal info in an email? Report it to us as a phishing scam.

  1. Select the checkbox next to the email(s) you're reporting.
  2. Click the down arrow next to "Spam."

  3. Click Report a Phishing Scam.

The account that sent the email will be reported to Yahoo.

+Reporting messages intended for someone else

If you've received emails addressed to someone else, it's possible they had your email address before you or someone accidentally entered your address.

  1. Select the checkbox next to the email(s) you're reporting.
  2. Click the down arrow next to "Spam."

  3. Click Not My Mail.

The message, and future messages from the sender, will be delivered to your Spam folder.

When applicable, your Yahoo ID will also be included as part of the Complaint Feedback Loop program so the sender can remove your ID from their mailing list.

Reporting Yahoo Mail spam if you don't use Yahoo 

  • Mark the email as spam directly in your Inbox using the “Spam,” “Report Spam,” or “Junk Mail” buttons.
  • Even though you may be using a different email service, if the spam offender is a Yahoo user, the report will be sent to us. 
  • If your email provider does not offer a spam reporting feature, submit your report using our "Got Spam?" form.
