Regular season tiebreakers in Fantasy Baseball

Important: It's not possible to deviate from the tie-breaking methods set by Yahoo Sports. Commissioners of Custom Leagues cannot implement their own tiebreakers.

Here are the three types of Regular Season tiebreakers:

Wild card

If, at the end of the regular season, two or more teams in a Head-to-Head League finish tied in the standings (based on winning percentage) and are not tied for the lead in a division, the following system will be used to break the tie and determine playoff seeding:

  • Fantasy points scored (if your league is a Head-to-Head Points league).
  • Highest winning percentage in the last week of the season.
  • Highest winning percentage in the second to last week of the season.
  • The comparison continues until the tie is broken or no more weeks remain to compare.

Division champion

If, at the end of the season, two or more teams in a division finish atop the standings with the same overall record, the following system will be used to decide only the division winner:

  • Division winning percentage.
  • Fantasy points scored (if your league is a Head-to-Head Points league).
  • Highest winning percentage in the last week of the season.
  • Highest winning percentage in the second to last week of the season.
  • The comparison continues until the tie is broken or no more weeks remain to compare.

If it's a three-way or four-way tie for a division championship, once the division winner is determined, the remaining teams will be seeded using Section A of the regular-season tiebreakers. Division winning percentage won't be considered.

Playoff seeds are based on your league's playoff seeding option, your league ranking and whether you're a divisional winner.

Rotisserie and Points leagues

There are no tiebreakers in Rotisserie or Points leagues. If a tie exists atop the standings, co-champions will be declared.

Good to know: Tiebreakers are also used to determine the standings during regular-season play.
