Recover your password on a mobile device

Forgot the password for your Yahoo account? It happens! We can help you get back in.

Recover your account using the Password Helper

  1. Visit the Yahoo sign-in page (
  2. Tap I can't access my account.
  3. Tap Reset my password.
  4. In the search field, enter your Yahoo ID and tap OK.
  5. Tap either mobile number, alternate email address, or answer secret questions, and then tap OK.

Using a mobile number

We'll send an SMS text message to the mobile number on your account.

  1. Open the SMS text message and review the 5 digit code.
  2. Enter the 5 digit code into the "Text Sent" screen.
  3. Tap OK.
  4. On the page that opens, enter a new password.

Using an alternate email address

We'll send an email to the backup address you chose for your account.
Note: If you have more than one mobile number on file, just let us know which one to use.

  1. Go to the inbox for your alternate email address and look for an email from Yahoo.
  2. Open the email, read the instructions, then click the link.
  3. On the page that opens, enter a new password. 

Using secret questions

A page will open with one of the security questions you chose.

  1. Answer the first security question, then tap Next.
  2. Answer the second security question, then tap Next.
  3. On the page that opens, enter a new password.
