Fantasy Baseball Pro Leagues
If you've ever played Yahoo Sports Free Fantasy Baseball, then you'll already know how to play and most of the rules for Pro Leagues -- they're virtually the same game, except for the pricing…and the payouts!
Yahoo Sports Fantasy Baseball Pro Leagues is a skill competition against others to win cash prizes using your knowledge and skill in assembling and managing a fantasy baseball team made up of real-life Major League Baseball (MLB) players.
The better your players perform in real-life games, the more value they bring to your fantasy team.
You can sign up for as many Fantasy Baseball Pro Leagues as you want -- there's no limit!
If there's a conflict between the Official Rules, Additional Terms of Service, and/or these instructions, the Official Rules always have the final say.
Yahoo Sports Fantasy Baseball Pro Leagues are offered in two different scoring types: Rotisserie and Head-to-Head.
While the exact length and format of a league's playing season depends on its scoring type, all leagues follow the 2014 MLB regular season schedule and begin play on March 22, 2014.
Regardless of a league's scoring format, the MLB playoffs have no bearing on the game -- All action and scoring takes place during the 2014 MLB regular season.
Head-to-Head playing season
The playing season for all Head-to-Head scoring leagues is broken out into 25 "Game Weeks." Each week, you're matched up against another team in you league to see who comes out on top.
At the conclusion of Game Week 22, the top teams in the league's standings square off against each other to decide the champion in the league's playoffs, taking place in Game Weeks 23-25.
Game Weeks generally follow a Monday-Sunday (7 day) schedule, beginning each Monday morning at midnight PT and ending the following Sunday night at 11:59:59 PM PT, or at the conclusion of the final Sunday night game if it hasn't ended by then.
- Game Week 1 runs March 22 through April 6
- Unless your league drafts between March 22 and March 29, then Game Week 1 runs March 30 through April 6.
- Game Week 16 runs July 14 through July 27
Rotisserie playing season
In Rotisserie scoring leagues, all scoring is cumulative over the course of the season (there are no "Head-to-Head" matchups, "Game Weeks," or league playoffs) and the league champion is determined at the conclusion of Game Week 25.
Pro Leagues are open to anyone and everyone, and every league contains exactly 12 teams.
All leagues use the same standard settings regardless of their scoring format, and are offered in 4 different competition levels:
- PRO20 ($20 entry fee)
- PRO50 ($50 entry fee)
- PRO100 ($100 entry fee)
- PRO250 ($250 entry fee)
Once you're signed up, you'll be randomly placed in a league with other managers who have chosen the same competition level, scoring system, and draft date and time.
Throughout the season, the players on your team earn fantasy points for their performances in a variety of real-life statistical categories.
In a Head-to-Head league, your goal is to score more points with your players each week than your opponent's team.
In a Rotisserie league, your goal is to accumulate the most points (using several different statistical categories) over the entire playing season.
All Pro Leagues conduct live, online drafts in either a standard or auction format. When you sign up, you'll get to pick the date and time that works best for you.
If all 12 slots in your league are full by your scheduled draft time, your league will conduct its draft to determine the rosters for each team.
If there are any empty slots, your league will be disbanded and everyone will be issued a credit for use towards a team in another Pro League (you'll automatically be issued a refund if you don't use your credit before registration closes).
Head-to-Head leagues - If a Game Week is already underway when your league drafts, your league won't begin until the start of the following Game Week and its Fantasy Regular Season will be shortened accordingly.
Rotisserie - In rotisserie leagues, your league will begin play the day following your draft if a Game Week is already underway when your draft takes place.
For more information, see the dates and deadlines for the current season.
Once your draft is complete, you'll have a roster of starting and bench players. If don't make any changes, your starting line-up will consist of the starters that you designated during the draft.
Throughout the season, it's up to you to make adjustments to your roster based on your knowledge and skill in evaluating how your players are performing.
Keep in mind, there are deadlines for when roster moves can take place.
Real-life MLB teams use "waivers" to make a player's rights available in a way that gives every other team a fair chance to claim them.
Just like in the pros, Pro Leagues feature a waiver system that builds upon the real-life waiver concept in a number of ways.
Learn more about our waiver system using our waivers overview.
All players not currently on a team in your league (and who are not currently on waivers) are considered free agents.
Free agents may be acquired by any manager in the league on a first-come, first-served basis.

The playoff system in Pro Leagues is different depending on your league's scoring format.
At the conclusion of Game Week 22, the top 6 teams in the standings are matched up against each other in a 3-week playoff for bragging rights and cash payouts!
In rotisserie leagues, the league champion is determined by the final standings after Game Week 25. If there is a tie at the top of the standings, co-champions will be declared.
When it's all said and done, each league's top-3 managers will be paid out based on how they fared in the playoffs.
