Access Yahoo Mail using Outlook Express

Not always online? Why not access your Yahoo Mail offline using a POP mail client like Microsoft Outlook Express? It's convenient and we have the steps to get you started.


Activating POP access in your Yahoo Mail account

Just activate POP in your Yahoo Mail account, using the enable pop in Yahoo Mail steps, to get started.

+Setting up your Yahoo Mail account in Outlook Express

  1. Click Tools | Accounts.
  2. Click the Mail tab.
  3. Click Add, then select Mail.
  4. Enter the following info, when prompted:
    • Display name - your name
    • Email address - your full Yahoo email address
    • Server type - POP3
    • Incoming mail (POP3) server - pop.mail.yahoo.com
    • Outgoing mail (SMTP) server - smtp.mail.yahoo.com
    • Account name - your full Yahoo email address
    • Password - your Yahoo Mail password
    • Deselect Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)
    • Click Finish.
  5. Select your new account, then click Properties.
  6. Click the Servers tab.
    • Select My server requires authentication.
    • Click Apply.
  7. Click the Advanced tab. 
    • Enter 465 in "Outgoing mail (SMTP)"
    • Select This server requires a secure connection (SSL)
    • Enter 995 in "Incoming mail (POP3)"
    • Select This server requires a secure connection (SSL)
    • Select Leave a copy of messages on server
    • Click OK.
  8. Click Close.
  9. Restart Outlook Express.
  10. Select Send/Receive to start getting mail from Yahoo Mail.
