How to set up FTPS

  Note: If you're using a different version of an FTP client listed here, the process for connecting may differ. If the steps below don't match what you see in your FTP client, we suggest consulting the in-program help for more information. Yahoo Small Business doesn't provide support for third party products or services.

Filezilla

  1. Click the File menu
  2. Click Site Manager
  3. Click New Site
  4. In the General tab, enter this information in the appropriate fields:
    • Host: ftp.yourdomain.com (replace yourdomain.com with your domain name)
    • Port: Leave blank
    • Protocol: FTP - File Transfer Protocol
    • Encryption: Require explicit FTP over TLS
    • Logon Type: Normal
    • User: Yahoo ID@yourdomain.com (replace yourdomain.com with your domain name)
    • Password: Your Yahoo ID password
  5. Click Connect

Note: The first time you connect using FTPS, you'll get an "Unknown certificate" message.  Select "Always trust certificate in future sessions" and you won't get this message again.

If Kiosk Mode is enabled, you'll need to disable it before you can connect using FTPS.

To disable Kiosk Mode:

  1. Go to the Edit menu
  2. Click Settings
  3. In the "Interface" category, uncheck "Do not save passwords" (listed under "Behavior")

Dreamweaver

Note: Versions older than Dreamweaver CS 5.5 don't support FTPS. If you're using an older version of Dreamweaver you'll need to either upgrade or use a different tool that supports FTPS to upload your files.

Dreamweaver CS 5.5, 6 and 6.5

  1. Click the Site menu
  2. Click New Site
  3. Click the Servers tab
  4. Click the + button to add a new server.
  5. Choose "FTP over SSL/TLS (Explicit Encryption)" from the Connect using: drop down menu
  6. Enter this information in the appropriate fields:
    • FTP Host: ftp.yourdomain.com (replace yourdomain.com with your domain name)
    • Host directory: leave blank or enter a \
    • Login: Yahoo ID@yourdomain.com (replace yourdomain.com with your domain name)
    • Password: Your Yahoo ID password
    • In the "Authentication" box, select None (Encryption Only) (If you are using Dreamweaver CS 5.5 you may not have this option).
    • Select Use passive FTP
  7. Click Test
  8. If the test is successful, click OK.

SmartFTP

  1. Click the File menu
  2. Click New Connection
  3. Enter this information in the appropriate fields:
    • Set Protocol to "FTPS (Explicit)"
    • Host: ftp.yourdomain.com (replace yourdomain.com with your domain name)
    • Path: leave blank
    • Login Type: Username & Password
    • Login: Yahoo ID@yourdomain.com (replace yourdomain.com with your own domain name)
    • Password: Your Yahoo ID password
  4. Click OK

CuteFTP

  1. Click the File menu
  2. Click Site Manager
  3. Click New Site
  4. Enter this information in the appropriate fields:
    • Enter a "Label" of your choice (optional)
    • Host: ftp.yourdomain.com (replace yourdomain.com with your domain name)
    • Login: Yahoo ID@yourdomain.com (replace yourdomain.com with your domain name)
    • Password: Your Yahoo ID password
    • Security: FTP with TLS/SSL
  5. Click Connect
  6. Click Accept when a certificate is presented

CyberDuck

  1. Click the Open Connection button
  2. Choose FTP - SSL (Explicit AUTH TLS) in the menu at the top of the window
  3. Enter this information in the appropriate fields:
    • Server: ftp.yourdomain.com (replace yourdomain.com with your domain name)
    • Login: Yahoo ID@yourdomain.com (replace yourdomain.com with your domain name)
    • Password: Your Yahoo ID password
    • Connection Mode: Passive (PASV)
  4. Click Continue

iWeb

  1. In the sidebar, click the site you want to publish
  2. In the Site Publishing Settings window choose FTP Server from the "Publish To" menu.
  3. Name the site (optional)
  4. Provide a contact email address.
  5. Enter this information in the appropriate fields:
    • Server Address: ftp.yourdomain.com (replace yourdomain.com with your domain name)
    • User name: Yahoo ID@yourdomain.com (replace yourdomain.com with your domain name)
    • Password: Your Yahoo ID password
    • Protocol: FTP with TLS/SSL
    • Directory/ Path: Leave blank
  6. Click Test Connection
  7. Click Publish

Fetch

When Fetch is first launched, you'll be prompted to enter your FTP credentials.

  1. Enter this information in the appropriate fields:
    • Host: ftp.yourdomain.com (replace yourdomain.com with your domain name)
    • Username: YahooID@yourdomain.com (replace yourdomain.com with your domain name)
    • Connect using: FTP with TLS/SSL
    • Leave "Enable encryption" checked.
    • Password: Your Yahoo ID password
    • Leave "Add to keychain" unchecked.
  2. Click Connect
  3. You'll receive the message "Fetch can not verify the identity of server." Click Continue.

Transmit

When Transmit is launched:

  1. Enter this information in the appropriate fields:
    • Server: ftp.yourdomain.com (replace yourdomain.com with your domain name)
    • Username: YahooID@yourdomain.com (replace yourdomain.com with your domain name)
    • Password: Your Yahoo ID password
    • Initial Path: Leave Blank
    • Port: Leave at 21, and select "FTP with TLS/SSL"
  2. Click Connect

  Note: If you don't have a Yahoo ID, and were given an FTP username your username will be, FTPusername@yourdomain.com, be sure to replace yourdomain.com with your website address.
