Fix download errors in Google Play Store

When you're getting one of these errors trying to install a Yahoo app from the Google Play Store, you might be running out of space on your phone or need to reset your Google Play Store settings.

  • "Could not be downloaded due to an error. (497)"
  • "There is insufficient space on the device."

Most of the errors can be avoided by simply switching between Wi-Fi and cellular data. If this doesn't fix the problem, continue reading.

Check that you have enough space on your phone

  1. Find the app you're looking for in the Google Play Store.
  2. On the app summary page, tap About this app.
  3. Swipe to the bottom of the page and make note of the Download size of the app.
  4. Tap the Home button on your phone.
  5. Tap the Settings app.
  6. Under the "System" heading, tap Storage.
  7. Check that your available space is greater than the size of the app.

Reset Google Play Store settings
