Sign up for and set up an FDMS-compatible merchant account

Yahoo Merchant Solutions uses First Data Merchant Services (FDMS) as the payment gateway to process transactions from your store in conjunction with your merchant account. It is only possible to set up a store for online credit card processing with a merchant account that uses First Data Merchant Services (FDMS).

If you need to sign up for a merchant account and you do not wish to use Bank of America Merchant Services or PayPal Payments Pro, you can explore other FDMS-compatible merchant account providers. Once you have been accepted for a merchant account, contact Yahoo Small Business as described below to set up your merchant account in your store.

If you have an existing merchant account, your first step is to determine if your merchant account is compatible with the FDMS Nashville Platform. Contact your merchant account provider to determine if this is the case. If your merchant account is not compatible with FDMS, you can still process credit card orders offline. Ask your merchant account provider for a new MID/TID pair for your Yahoo Store. You should ask them to use the following information in the setup:

  • Product Name: Yahoo Store FDMS (g/w)
  • Product ID:819000
  • Vendor Name: Yahoo
  • Vendor ID:190

Add an existing FDMS-compatible merchant account

Due to recent changes in security practices at First Data, you'll need to contact Yahoo Small Business to add an existing merchant account to Yahoo Merchant Solutions. There's no additional charge for using your own merchant transaction service provider.

  1. Go to the Yahoo Small Business Customer Support page.
  2. For step 1, select Merchant Solutions and Yahoo Commerce Central.
  3. For step 2, select Order Processing.
  4. For step 3, select Setting up online payment processing.
  5. Click Continue.
  6. If you're not already signed in to your Yahoo account, click Sign In.
  7. Call the Yahoo Merchant Solutions phone number listed on the screen.

Please have the following information ready when you call. It must match exactly the information that your bank has on file for your merchant account.

  • Business name - Legal DBA name.
  • Business phone number.
  • Business address - Including the ZIP code.
  • Business tax ID - Sometimes this is the Social Security Number on your merchant account.
  • Bank name - Name of your merchant bank.
  • Merchant account number - If you have multiple accounts, you need only provide the number for one.
  • Checking account number.
  • Bank routing number.
  • MID - Your Merchant Identification Number is usually 7 digits long, not counting any leading zeroes. MID isn't the same as your merchant account number.
  • TID - Your Terminal Identification Number is usually 7 digits long, not counting any leading zeroes. TID isn't the same as your merchant account number.
  • Cards types to be tested and enabled - Provide only the cards that your account is capable of processing (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover).
