Address an email

New to Yahoo Mail? Here's how you can add contacts to an email you're composing.

Address Categories

You have three different types of categories you can add contacts to, letting you display or hide contacts from your recipients as you see fit.

To

This field is always visible.

  • Used for primary recipients.
  • Email addresses will be visible to all recipients.
  • Replying to all will include these addresses.

Important: It's required to add at least one contact to this field.

CC (Carbon Copy)

Click CC on the right to display this field.

  • Used for secondary recipients.
  • Email addresses will be visible to all recipients.
  • Replying to all will include these addresses.

BCC (Blind Carbon Copy)

Click BCC (if BCC is not listed, first click CC) on the right to display this field.

  • Used to send a private copy of the email to recipients.
    - Keep a contact in the loop but don't let anyone know about it.
  • Email addresses will not be visible to any recipients.
  • Replying to all will not include these addresses.

Adding Contacts to outgoing messages

Once you've decided what category you should include your contacts in, it's time to add contacts!

Auto-complete

Auto-complete is the fastest way to add a handful of contacts.

  1. Click into the To, CC, or BCC field.
  2. Enter part of a contact's name or email address.
    - A list of contacts appears as you type.
  3. Press the Enter key to pick the top contact or select a contact.
    - The contact appears in the address field.

Did you know: Yahoo Mail can also automatically suggest the best contacts, based on your email history. Learn more with our Auto-Suggest help article.

Choose Contacts window

The Choose Contacts dialog is best for adding several contacts.

  1. Click the To, CC, or BCC link left of the address field.
    - The Choose Contacts window opens.
  2. Select a list of contacts from the "View" menu.
    - Contained contacts will be displayed.
  3. Select the checkbox beside the desired contacts.
  4. Click Done.

The contacts will be inserted into the address field you selected.

Contacts page

You can compose a new message directly from the Contacts page!

  1. Click the Contacts icon Contacts icon from the Left Navigation column.
  2. Select the checkboxes next to the contacts you want to email.
  3. Click Email Contacts.

A new email message will appear and the selected contacts will be inserted.
