Setting up Business Mail in Microsoft Outlook 2007

  Before you start:

Add a new Yahoo Business Email POP email account in Outlook 2007

  1. Launch Outlook.
  2. Click Tools | Account Settings.
  3. Click the E-mail tab.
  4. Click the New.
  5. In the "Choose E-mail Service" window of the Add New E-Mail Account Wizard:
    • Select Microsoft Exchange, POP3, IMAP, or HTTP (usually the default selection).
    • Click Next.
  6. In the Auto Account Setup window:
    • Select Manually configure server settings or additional server types.
    • Click Next.
  7. In the "Choose E-mail Service" window:
    • Select Internet E-Mail.
    • Click Next.
  8. In the "Internet E-mail Settings" window, enter this information:
    • User Information
      • Your Name: Enter the name you would like to appear in the "From" field of outgoing messages.
      • Email Address: Enter your full Yahoo Business Email address (for example, "j.smith@yourdomain.com").
    • Server Information
      • Account Type: POP3
      • Incoming mail server: pop.bizmail.yahoo.com
      • Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.bizmail.yahoo.com
    • Login Information
      • User Name: Enter your entire Yahoo Business Email address.
      • Password: Enter your Yahoo Business Email password.
    • Do not select "Require logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)."
    • Click More Settings.
  9. Click the Outgoing Server tab.
  10. On the Outgoing Server tab:
    • Select My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication.
    • Select Use same settings as my incoming server" (this is usually auto-selected as the default option)
  11. Click the Advanced tab.
  12. On the Advanced tab:
    • Under "Incoming Server (POP3)", select This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL).
    • The port number in the "Incoming Server (POP3)" field should automatically change from 110 to 995. If it doesn't, change the port number to 995.
    • Under "Outgoing Server (SMTP)", select SSL from the "Use the following type of encrypted connection" drop down.
    • Enter port number 465 in the "Outgoing Server (SMTP)" field.
    • In the "Delivery" section:
      • Select Leave a copy of messages on server if you want to save your Business Mail messages on the Yahoo Mail server as well as on your local computer. Do not check this box if you want your messages to be deleted from the Yahoo Mail server when they are downloaded to Outlook.
      • Select Remove from server after ___ days if you want downloaded messages to be deleted from the Yahoo servers after the specified period of time.
      • Select Remove from server when deleted from 'Deleted Items' if you want Outlook to delete the copies messages on the Yahoo servers when you delete the copy in Outlook's Deleted Items folder.
    • Click OK.
  13. Click Next.
  14. Click Finished.

  Note: We require the use of SSL for the outgoing SMTP server.

  • If your ISP blocks port 25 or 465 you can use port 587.
  • If you use port 587, select the security option STARTTLS.
  • If your POP client doesn't offer STARTTLS as a security option, select either SSL or TLS.

Change the POP and SMTP ports:

  1. Launch Outlook.
  2. Click Tools | Account settings.
  3. Click "Account Settings..." in the Tools pull-down menu.
  4. Click the E-mail tab.
  5. In the account list, double-click the account you want to edit.
  6. Click More Settings.
  7. Click the Advanced tab.
  8. On the "Advanced" tab:
    • Under "Incoming Server (POP3)", uncheck "This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)".
    • The port number in the "Incoming Server (POP3)" field should automatically change from 995 to 110. If it doesn't, change the port number to 110.
    • Under "Outgoing Server (SMTP)", select None from the "Use the following type of encrypted connection" drop down.
    • Enter port number 587 in the "Outgoing Server (SMTP)" field.
    • Click OK.
  9. Click Next.
  10. Click Finished.

Control deletion of messages from the server

You can choose whether Outlook leaves copies of email messages on the Yahoo server when downloading them to your computer or whether they are deleted from the Yahoo server when downloaded to your computer.

  1. Launch Outlook.
  2. Click Tools | Account Settings.
  3. Select the E-mail tab.
  4. In the account list, double-click the account you want to edit.
  5. Click the More Settings.
  6. Click the Advanced tab.
  7. On the "Advanced" tab:
    • In the Delivery section at the bottom of the window:
      • Select Leave a copy of messages on server if you want to save your Business Mail messages on the Yahoo Mail server as well as on your local computer. Do not select this if you want your messages to be deleted from the Yahoo Mail server when they are downloaded to Outlook.
      • Select Remove from server after ___ days if you want downloaded messages to be deleted from the Yahoo servers after the specified period of time.
      • Select Remove from server when deleted from 'Deleted Items' if you want Outlook to delete the copies messages on the Yahoo servers when you delete the copy in Outlook's Deleted Items folder.
    • Click OK.
  8. Click Next.
  9. Click Finish.
