Protect yourself from government-backed attackers
We continuously monitor for suspicious activity, including from government-backed attackers. If we strongly suspect your account is being targeted, we’ll notify you with the following message:
"Government-backed attackers may be targeting your account."
This notice is displayed when you sign in to your Yahoo account. It won't ask you to provide any personal or authentication information. If you see this notice, which will display for up to 10 days, it will instruct you to:
- Confirm your account recovery info, which you may review and update on your Account Security page.
- You may also be asked to either turn on 2-step verification, or to keep 2-step verification turned on. Learn more about using 2-step verification.
We also recommend reviewing your account for unusual activity and taking steps to secure your account.
