Fix Yahoo Search location problems on Android

There are a couple of problems that can prevent you from sharing your location with Yahoo Search, to improve the accuracy of your search results. Here's an example of Yahoo prompting you to share your location.

Fix "Location Unavailable"

If you see "Location Unavailable" when using Yahoo Search, follow these steps to make sure that Yahoo Search is allowed by your browser to request your location.

Firefox

Phone and Tablet

  1. Open Firefox for Android.
  2. Go to https://search.yahoo.com/.
  3. Press the Menu button on your device.
  4. Tap Page.
  5. Tap Edit Site Settings.
  6. Tap Clear.

Chrome

Phone and Tablet

  1. Open Chrome for Android.
  2. Tap the Customize Chrome icon Customize Chrome button icon.
  3. Tap Settings.
  4. Tap Site settings.
  5. Tap Location.
  6. Tap https://search.yahoo.com/.
  7. Tap Location access.
  8. Tap Allow.

Android Web browser

Phone (Android 4.1)

  1. Open the Android Web Browser.
  2. Press the Menu button on your device.
  3. Tap Settings.
  4. Tap Privacy & Security.
  5. Go to the "Location" section.
  6. Select Enable location if it's not already selected.
  7. Press the Back button on your device.
  8. Tap Advanced.
  9. Tap Website settings.
  10. Tap https://search.yahoo.com/.
  11. Tap Clear location access.
  12. Tap Ok.

Tablet (Android 4.4)

  1. Open the Android Web Browser.
  2. Press the Menu button on your device.
  3. Tap Settings.
  4. Tap Content Settings.
  5. Tap Website settings.
  6. Tap https://search.yahoo.com/.
  7. Select Location access.

Turn on all location services

Make sure these location services are enabled to allow Yahoo Search to request your location. You'll know these services aren't properly enabled if you:

  • Don't see a prompt for your precise location, when using Yahoo Search for location-related searches.
  • Do see a prompt but receive a “Location Unavailable” or “Unable to get location” message when you tap "get precise location".

Phones

Android 4.1

  1. Tap Settings (or System Settings).
  2. Tap Location access.
  3. Next to “Access to my location” tap the On/Off slider to turn it “On.”
  4. Select GPS satellites.
  5. Select Wi-Fi & mobile network location.

Android 4.4

  1. Swipe down to open the quick settings menu.
  2. Tap the Settings icon.
  3. Next to "Wi-Fi," tap the On/Off slider to turn it "On."
  4. Next to "Location," tap the On/Off slider to turn it "On."
    - You're prompted for your location consent.
  5. Tap Agree, if you consent.
  6. Tap Location.
  7. Tap Mode.
  8. Tap High accuracy.
