Fix location problems for Yahoo Search on iOS

There are a few problems that can prevent you from sharing your location with Yahoo Search, to improve the accuracy of your search results. Here's an example of Yahoo prompting you to share your location.

Fix "Location Unavailable"

If you see "Location Unavailable" when using Yahoo Search, follow these steps in order to make sure that Yahoo Search is allowed by your browser and mobile device to request your location.

Turn on location services for your browser

  1. On your mobile device's home screen, tap the Settings icon.
  2. Scroll down and tap Privacy.
  3. Tap Location Services.
  4. Scroll down to the browser you’re using (like Safari).
  5. Turn location services on for your browser:
    • iOS8 - Tap your browser, then tap While Using the App or Always.
    • iOS7 - Next to your browser tap the On/Off slider to turn it “On” (it'll turn green).

Disable private browsing

If your browser is in private mode, it will block Yahoo from using your precise location.

Safari (iOS 8)

  1. On your mobile device, open Safari.
  2. Tap the View tabs icon View tabs icon.
  3. If "Private" is highlighted, tap Private to deselect it.
  4. Tap Done.

Reset location settings

If you've completed the other steps but still see the "Location Unavailable" message, reset your mobile device's location settings to their factory default.

iOS 8

  1. On your mobile device's home screen, tap the Settings icon.
  2. Tap General.
  3. Scroll down and tap Reset.
  4. Tap Reset Location & Privacy.
  5. If prompted, enter your passcode.
  6. Tap Reset Settings.

Turn on all location services

Make sure that your phone or tablet's Location Services are turned on, to resolve the following issues:

  • You don’t see a prompt to get precise location.
  • When choosing to “get precise location” on Yahoo Search, a “Location Unavailable” or “Unable to get location” message displays.

Enable Location Services

  1. On your mobile device’s home screen, tap the Settings icon.
  2. Scroll down and tap Privacy.
  3. Tap Location Services.
  4. Next to “Location Services,” tap the On/Off slider to turn it "On" (it'll turn green).
  5. In Safari, enter your Yahoo Search again.
  6. If you’re prompted to allow “search.yahoo.com” to use your current location, tap OK.

Turn on WiFi

  1. On your phone or tablet's home screen, tap the Settings icon.
  2. Tap Wi-Fi.
  3. Next to “Wi-Fi,” tap the On/Off slider (it'll turn green).
