Set up or remove a Yahoo Mail account in the iOS Mail app

All apple mobile devices come with a pre-installed email app. While this app won't give you access to more advanced features found in the Yahoo Mail app (such as managing folders, your account info, and themes), you can add a number of Yahoo Mail accounts to send and receive emails from it.

Add a Yahoo Mail account using the iOS automated setup

This option is available to newer versions of the OS.

  1. Open the iOS Settings app.
  2. Tap Mail.
  3. Tap Accounts.
  4. Tap Add Account.
  5. Tap Yahoo.
  6. Enter your Yahoo Mail address and password, then tap Sign in.
  7. Optionally, disable aspects of Yahoo Mail from syncing.
  8. Tap Save.

Manually add a Yahoo Mail account using IMAP settings

Use this option for older versions of the OS, which do not support the automated setup.

  1. Open the iOS Settings app.
  2. Tap Mail (or Mail, Contacts, Calendar on older devices).
  3. Tap Accounts (only in newer versions of the OS).

  6. Enter your full email address and password, then tap Next.
  7. Enter our IMAP settings for incoming and outgoing servers.
  8. Enter your email address for the user name, then tap Next.
  9. Make sure "Use SSL" is on and "Server Port" is 587, then tap Done.

Update fetch settings to get timely notifications

The iOS environment supports 2 kinds of email notifications - Push and Fetch. Yahoo Mail is designed to work with Fetch, which will check for new emails at regular time intervals. You can decide how frequently the app checks.

  1. Open the iOS Settings app.
  2. Tap Mail.
  3. Tap Accounts.
  4. Tap Fetch New Data.
  5. Tap a time interval at the bottom.
  6. Tap your Yahoo Mail account.
  7. Make sure that "Fetch" is selected.

Remove a Yahoo Mail account

  1. Open the iOS Settings app.
  2. Tap Mail.
  3. Tap Accounts.
  4. Tap your Yahoo Mail account.
  5. Tap Delete Account.
