Configure proxy settings for Yahoo Messenger

Having a tough time signing in to Yahoo Messenger and you know your proxy server settings? You can manually configure Yahoo Messenger to connect to the Internet.

HTTP proxy

  1. In the Messenger window, click Messenger | select Sign Out.
    - You'll be signed out of Yahoo Messenger.
  2. Click Messenger | select Connection Preferences.
  3. Select Connect via a proxy server.
  4. Select HTTP proxy.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Open Internet Explorer.
  7. Click Tools | select Internet Options.
    - The "Internet Options" window opens.
  8. Click Connections.
  9. Click LAN Settings.
    - The "Local Area Network (LAN) Settings" dialog box opens.
  10. Under "Proxy Server," select Use a proxy server for your LAN.
  11. Enter your information into Address and Port.
  12. Click OK.
  13. Click Advanced to verify that your proxy settings for secure connections are correct.
  14. Sign in to Yahoo Messenger.

SOCKS proxy

  1. In the Messenger window, click Messenger | select Sign Out.
    - You'll be signed out of Yahoo Messenger.
  2. Click Messenger | select Connection Preferences.
  3. Select Connect via a proxy server.
  4. Select SOCKS proxy.
  5. Enter your information into Server name, Port, User ID, and Password.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Sign in to Yahoo Messenger.
