Privacy tips for Yahoo Messenger

No one likes being spied on. Since your Yahoo Messenger conversations are supposed to be private, here are a few tips to keep them that way.

  • Always remember, the person you're chatting with might share your conversation with other people.
  • Anyone who sends you a message can download your profile picture without your knowledge, so choose a photo that you're comfortable sharing publicly.
  • Don't select "Remember my ID and password" if you share your computer with anyone else -- they'll have access to your past conversations if that box is selected.
  • Use Yahoo Messenger through a secure connection that uses a firewall -- Remember though, your system administrator might have the ability to review your network traffic and content (including instant messages). If you're concerned about that, talk to your Internet service provider (ISP) giving you Internet access.
