Spam emails are sent from hacked account after password change

If your Yahoo Mail account was hacked, since secured, and it still seems like you're sending spam, "spoofing" is the cause. Learn more about email spoofing and the reason why it's happening.

Email Spoofing

Email spoofing is the forgery of an email header so the message appears to be coming from somewhere other than the actual source. It's similar to writing a forged return address on a letter.
Scammers use spoofing because your contacts are more likely to open the email if it looks like it's coming from you.

Already secured your account?

  • You don't need to change your password every time someone says they got spam from you.
  • Future spoofing doesn't mean you're hacked but we always encourage securing your account.
  • Spoofed emails are sent from outside the Yahoo network and attackers don't have access to your account.
  • If we detect any suspicious activity, Yahoo uses extra sign on verification that prevents unauthorized access.
