How linked brokerage accounts work with Yahoo Finance

Yahoo has partnered with TradeIt, Inc. so you can trade within Yahoo Finance using your online broker. If you have a supported brokerage account, you can link it to your Yahoo Finance account.

  The brokerage linking feature is in the process of being added across the different platforms and locales supported by Yahoo Finance. It may not yet be available to you.

Is Yahoo a broker dealer?

No, Yahoo is not a broker dealer. Yahoo provides a user interface to allow you to trade with your broker directly from our apps and websites. All order communications are passed directly through to your broker who is responsible for executing your trades. Yahoo is not responsible for any actions or trades that you take with respect to your brokerage account. Yahoo does not provide any investment advice regarding any security, transaction or order.

Is there a fee or commission?

No, neither Yahoo nor TradeIt charge fees for trades initiated for linked brokerage accounts in Yahoo Finance. You continue to pay your linked broker whatever fees or commission you've been paying for trades without additional cost.

What is the difference between My Portfolio and a linked brokerage account?

'My Portfolio' is the name for the Yahoo Finance toolkit that enables you to follow the collected stocks you are interested in tracking, by the creation of watchlists, multiple portfolios you can build based on your actual, potential, or fantasy holdings, and linked brokerage account portfolios (as applicable). A linked brokerage account is one of the reference points we use in creating your My Portfolio aggregation of stocks you are interested in. You do not need to have a linked brokerage account to benefit from the My Portfolio tools.

Does Yahoo save my portfolio data?

Yahoo will save your portfolio data to improve your product experience, reduce latency, show your balance and holdings data in our products and send you breaking news or important alerts about your positions. Can Yahoo trade without my authorization?

No, Yahoo will not place or cancel trades without your authorization. After you link your brokerage account, you control the ability to place or cancel trades (powered by TradeIt) through Yahoo Finance.

What happens if I have an error placing or canceling an order?

Yahoo will display the error message provided by your broker directly in the app. Since Yahoo is not involved in order handling, you should contact your broker directly to inquire why the errors occur.

How does Yahoo access my brokerage account to place trades?
