+/- - Plus-Minus

Definition
Used to measure a player's impact on the game, represented by the difference between their team's total scoring versus their opponent's when the player is in the game.

Why does this stat matter for fantasy?
Plus-minus can be an indicator of potential playing time for bench players. A high plus-minus is suggestive of a player who helps his team win when he is on the fllor even if he does not put up great individual stats. If you are looking for players who could be in line for increased playing time, plus-minus can be used as one data point to decide if you should add them.

AR - Assist Rate

Definition
Estimate of percentage of teammate field goals a player assisted while he was on the floor.

Why does this stat matter for fantasy?
This is a great stat when scouting back-up point guards who may be in line for increased playing time. A player with a high assist rate is likely to produce a lot of assists with more minutes.

eFG% - Effective Shooting Percentage

Definition
Effective Shooting Percentage (eFG%) measures field goal percentage adjusting for the fact that a 3-point field goal is worth one more point than a 2-point field goal.

The formula is eFG% = ((FGM + (0.5 * 3PM)) / FGA.

FTR - Free Throw Rate

Definition
Measures Free Throws per field goal attempt.

Why does this stat matter for fantasy?
Free throw rate is valuable when you are looking for players who consistently get to the free line. Players who go to the free throw line often will have less variation game-to-game in their scoring than players who rely more heavily on field goals. This stat is more useful for head-to-head leagues and daily fantasy than it is for rotisserie or points-only leagues.

TOR - Turnover Rate

Definition
Estimate of turnovers per 100 possessions.

Why does this stat matter for fantasy?
This is the flipside of assist rate. A player with a high turnover rate will produce more TOS, the more minutes he plays.

TS% - True Shooting Percentage

Definition
True Shooting Percentage (TS%) is intended to more accurately calculate a player's shooting than field goal percentage, free throw percentage, and three-point field goal percentage individually.

The formula is TS% = PTS / 2(FGA+(0.44*FTA)) * 100.

Why does this stat matter for fantasy?
TS% is a good tool for helping fantasy basketball players determine when a player's shooting is truly harmful to their teams.

Usg% - Usage Percentage

Definition
Estimate of the percentage of team plays used by a player while he was on the floor.

The formula is TS% = PTS / 2(FGA+(0.44*FTA)) * 100

Why does this stat matter for fantasy?
This stat can be helpful to identify potential fantasy stars who don't see a lot of playing time. If a player sees the ball often when he is on the floor, it is possible he will see the ball often with more minutes. Players with low minutes but who are high in usage percentage in addition to effective field goal percentage and true shooting percentage (i.e. they score efficiently) are great sleeper candidates.

WS - Win Shares

Definition
Estimates the number of wins a player produces for their team.
