Set up, use, and manage Yahoo Account Key sign in to stop using passwords

Tired of remembering and managing multiple passwords? Account Key is more secure and allows you to skip using a password to sign in. Once enabled, Yahoo sends a notification to the mobile device of your choice. All you need to do is approve it. Access is limited to your private device, so no one else can get into the account.

Set up Account Key

Turn on Account Key from a web browser:

  1. Install the latest version of any Yahoo app, like the Yahoo Mail app.
  2. Sign in with your Yahoo account.
  3. From a web browser, sign in to your Account Info page.
    - On a smartphone tap the Menu icon Image of the Sidebar menu icon., then tap Account Info, then tap the Menu icon Image of the Sidebar menu icon. again.
  4. Click Account security.
  5. Click See how it works.
  6. Select your device and app to be notified on.
  7. Click Yes, send me a notification.
    - A notification will go to the app you selected.
  8. On your device, tap the Approve icon Image of the Account Key accept button..
  9. Back in your web browser, click Always use Yahoo Account Key.
  10. Confirm your cellphone number, which is used if you lose access to your device.

Turn on Account Key from an Android or iOS device:

  1. Install the latest version of any Yahoo app, like the Yahoo Mail app.
  2. Sign in with your Yahoo account.
  3. Tap the Menu icon Image of the Sidebar menu icon..
  4. Tap the Account Key icon Image of the Account Key icon..
  5. Tap Set up Account Key.
  6. Tap the Approve icon Image of the Account Key accept button..
  7. Tap Got it.
  8. Tap Enable Account Key.
  9. Tap Great, got it!

Sign in with Account Key

After you've set up Account Key, you never have to use a password again. You get to approve or deny access with the tap of your finger.

  1. From a web browser, sign in to your Account Info page.
  2. Enter your username, then click Next.
    - A notification is sent to your Account Key enabled device.
  3. On your device, tap the notification or open the app and tap the Account Key icon Image of the Account Key icon. found by your account name.
  4. Tap the Approve icon Image of the Account Key accept button..
  5. You might be prompted to either enter or tap a verification code to confirm.

Manage devices or disable Account Key

If you're using multiple devices and Yahoo apps, you can choose where the notification is sent. You can also turn off Account Key and switch back to a password, if you prefer.

  1. From your Account Key enabled app, tap the Menu icon Image of the Sidebar menu icon..
  2. Tap the Account Key icon Image of the Account Key icon..
  3. Tap Manage Account Key.
  4. Tap the toggle to the right of any device you want to turn on or off.
  5. Optionally, tap Disable Account Key to switch back to a password.
