Child and family account limitations

Child accounts are accounts registered with a date of birth indicating they're 17 or younger. These accounts are unable to do certain things on Yahoo sites and, if they're under 13, are managed by a family account. Once created, a child account cannot be separated from the parent.

Can I create a new child account?

  • You are under 13 - No.
  • You are between 13 to 17 - Yes.

These child accounts won't be able to:

Managed by a family account:

The child will have their own Yahoo ID linked to the parent's account, but both accounts must be accessed separately. As the parent, you'll be able to:

  • Edit your child's Yahoo Mail Banned List.
  • Sign in as your child to modify any part of your child's account.
  • Edit your child's account information and other details stored on Yahoo.

To close your family Account you'll need to close any connected child account first. If you forgot the connected IDs, look them up with the Sign-in Helper.
