Automatically forward email with Yahoo Mail

Your incoming email can be forwarded to another email account in addition to your Yahoo Mail.

When you turn on mail forwarding it sends a copy of incoming email to another email address you specify. You can choose whether the copy in your Yahoo is marked as read or shows as unread.

Enable or disable forwarding

Forwarding is disabled by default but can easily be turned on or off.

Enable forwarding

  1. Mouse over the Settings menu icon Gear Icon | select Settings.
  2. Click Accounts.
  3. Click on the Yahoo email account.
  4. Scroll down and select Forward.
  5. Enter the address you want to forward your email to and select a forwarding option:
    • Store and forward - Email is saved to your account and sent to the forwarding address.
    • Store and forward and mark as read - Email is saved to your account, marked as "Read," and sent to the forwarding address.
  6. Click Save.

You'll see a pop-up window asking that you check the account of the forwarding email address you provided for a confirmation mail from Yahoo Member Services.

Click the link in the confirmation email you receive and follow the instructions to add your forwarding address to your current Yahoo Mail account.

Important: The address you want to forward your emails to must be added to your Yahoo Account before forwarding can be enabled.

Disable forwarding

  1. Mouse over the Settings menu icon Gear Icon | select Settings.
  2. Click Accounts.
  3. Click on the Yahoo email account.
  4. Select POP.
  5. Click Save.

Good to know: Only forwarding or POP can be enabled at any given time. Selecting POP disables forwarding.

Not receiving forwarded messages?

You can fix most forwarding issues by fixing settings in your Yahoo Mail account or the account the email is forwarded to.

Check your settings

  • Check your forwarding settings in Yahoo Mail.
    • Use the Enable forwarding steps above to ensure "POP" is not selected.
    • Verify the correct destination address is entered.
  • Check the destination account's settings.
    • A filter in the destination account can cause the mail to arrive in an unexpected folder.
    • If the destination account has a storage limit, the limit might have been reached.

If you need assistance with the destination account's settings, or if the issue persists, contact your destination account's online support or help files.
