Clearing the Security Breach Alert

If you're contacting us because you're unable to clear the security breach alert, click the X in the upper-right hand corner or press the escape key on your keyboard to clear the message. This should clear the alert and allow you to view your mail.

Add or remove account recovery email addresses and mobile numbers

It shouldn't be a hassle to sign in to your account if you ever forget your sign-in information. Having an alternate email address or mobile number helps us quickly confirm your identity using a verification email or text message so you can get back into your account.

Add a recovery email address

When following these steps, you may be asked to sign in to confirm your identity at different times.

  1. Go to your Yahoo Account Settings.
  2. Click Account security.
  3. If you're adding your first recovery email address, click Add recovery email address. If you already have a recovery email address and you're adding an extra one, click Email addresses.
  4. If you're adding your first recovery email address, enter the email address you'd like to assign. If you already have a recovery email address and you're adding an extra one, click Add recovery email address and enter the email address you'd like to add.
  5. Click Send verification email.
  6. Check your recovery email address inbox for an email with the subject, "Please verify your alternate email address."
  7. Click the verification link in the email sent to your recovery email address.
  8. Click Verify.

If you don't click "Verify" (step 8), your recovery email address won't be saved to your account.

Add a recovery mobile number

When following these steps, you may be asked to sign in to confirm your identity at different times.

You must have at least 1 recovery email address or recovery phone number on your account at all times. If you have only 1 recovery email address (and no recovery phone number), you'll need to add a second recovery email address before you can remove the first one.

  1. Go to your Yahoo Account Settings.
  2. Click Account security.
  3. Click Email addresses.
  4. Click the Delete icon Delete icon to the right of the email address you want to remove.
