Fix problems with Android apps

When Yahoo apps stop working, there's usually a quick and easy fix. Troubleshooting these common Android app problems should get you back to what you want to do quickly.

 Update the app - Make sure you have the latest version of the Yahoo app.

App crashes

If an app on your Android device keeps crashing there's a few things you can do to resolve the issue.

Complete each step before moving to the next one:

  1. Clear your app data and cache
  2. Force stop and restart the app
  3. Uninstall and reinstall the app

If none of the above steps fix the problem, contact your device manufacturer regarding steps to fix app issues on your specific device.

Feature unavailable on a mobile device

Sign in issues

Mobile number has changed

If you get a new phone number, but keep using the same phone, follow the steps below.

  1. Go to your Account settings page and click your existing number.
  2. Click Add recovery phone number.
  3. Enter your mobile number in the space provided.
  4. Click Send SMS.
    - Yahoo sends a push notification to your phone.
  5. Enter the code in the space provided.
  6. Click Verify.

App passwords

If you've turned on two-step verification, ODP/Account Key, or if you use a 3rd party email app (like iOS mail or Android Mail) to access Yahoo Mail, you'll need to create an app password specifically for that app. Learn more about app passwords.

Two-step verification

Two-step verification uses both your password and an extra security code to verify your identity whenever you sign in to your account. Learn more about two-step verification.

Account Key

Problems with Android Mail Sign-in

If you're having trouble connecting to your Yahoo Mail account in the native Android Mail app, remove your Yahoo Mail account then re-add it in Android Mail.

Make sure your device can connect to the internet before you try more complicated steps to fix app problems. 

Review your app permissions

App permissions are the settings that allow apps to connect to other information on your device. It's a good idea to review permissions for Android apps to check that they're enabled.
