Access Yahoo Mail in Outlook 2002 and 2003

Not always online? Just access your Yahoo Mail offline using a POP mail client like Microsoft Outlook 2002 or 2003. It's convenient and we have the steps to get you started.

 Make sure you've set up POP access in Yahoo Mail before continuing. Learn how to enable POP access.

Setting up Yahoo Mail in Outlook 2002 and 2003

  1. In Outlook 2002 or 2003, click Tools E-mail Accounts.
  2. Select Add a new e-mail account.
  3. Click Next.
  4. Select POP3.
  5. Click Next.
  6. Enter the following details:
    • User Information
      • Your Name - Enter your name as you’d like it to appear when you send an email message.
      • E-mail Address - Enter your Yahoo Mail address (for example,
    • Server Information - Refer to the Yahoo Mail POP settings.
    • Login Information:
      • User Name: Enter your Yahoo ID (your email address without the "")
      • Password: Enter your Yahoo password.
    • Select the Remember password checkbox if you don't want Outlook to prompt you for your password each time you check your mail.
    • Do not select the Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA) checkbox.
  7. Click the More Settings button.
    - The Internet E-mail Settings dialog box appears.
  8. Select the Outgoing Server tab:
    • Select the My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication checkbox.
    • Make sure that Use same settings as my incoming mail server is selected.
  9. Select the Advanced tab:
    • Under "Incoming server (POP3)," select the This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL) checkbox. The number in the "Incoming server (POP3)" field usually changes automatically from 110 to 995. If it doesn’t, type 995.
    • In the "Outgoing server (SMTP)" field, make sure your settings match the Yahoo Mail POP settings.
    • Select Leave a copy of messages on the server if you want to save your Yahoo Mail messages on both the Yahoo Mail server and on your computer.
  10. Click OK to close the Internet E-mail Settings dialog box.
  11. Click Next.
  12. Click Finish.
  13. Restart Outlook.
  14. Click Send/Receive.

You'll now be able to receive your Yahoo Mail emails in your Outlook 2002 or 2003 account.
