Access Yahoo Mail using Outlook Express

Don't have access to the Web, but need your Yahoo Mail? Access it offline using a POP mail client like Microsoft Outlook Express. It's convenient and we have the steps to get you started.

 Make sure you've set up POP access in Yahoo Mail before continuing. Learn how to enable POP access.

Setting up Yahoo Mail in Outlook Express

  1. Click Tools | Accounts.
  2. Click the Mail tab.
  3. Click Add, then select Mail.
  4. Enter the following info, when prompted:
    • Display name - your name
    • Email address - your full Yahoo Mail address
    • Server type - POP3
    • Server information - Make sure your settings match the Yahoo Mail POP settings.
    • Account name - your full Yahoo Mail address
    • Password - your Yahoo Mail password
    • Deselect Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)
    • Click Finish.
  5. Select your new account, then click Properties.
  6. Click the Servers tab.
    • Select My server requires authentication.
    • Click Apply.
  7. Click the Advanced tab.
    • Enter 465 in "Outgoing mail (SMTP)"
    • Select This server requires a secure connection (SSL)
    • Enter 995 in "Incoming mail (POP3)"
    • Select This server requires a secure connection (SSL)
    • Select Leave a copy of messages on server
    • Click OK.
  8. Click Close.
  9. Restart Outlook Express.
  10. Select Send/Receive to start getting mail from Yahoo Mail.

You'll now be able to receive your Yahoo Mail emails in your Outlook Express account.
