Recover your password using a mobile device

If you forgot the password for your Yahoo account but don't have access to a computer, you can reset your password using a mobile device. As long as your account's contact info is up to date, it's easy to get back in.

Password recovery options

Mobile number

We'll send an SMS text message to the mobile number on your account.

Note: If you have more than one mobile number on file, just let us know which one to use.

  1. Visit the Yahoo sign-in page (mlogin.yahoo.com).
  2. Tap I can't access my account.
  3. Tap Reset your password.
  4. In the search field, enter your Yahoo ID, tap OK.
  5. Enter the CAPTCHA code, tap OK.
  6. Tap your mobile number, tap OK.
  7. Enter the missing digits from your mobile number, tap OK.
    - A "Validation code" window appears.
  8. Click Send code
    - A text message [SMS] with a verification code will be sent to your mobile number.
  9. Enter that verification code in the field, tap OK.
  10. Enter a new password, tap OK.
  11. Tap Done.

Alternate email address

We'll send an email to the backup address you chose for your account.

  1. Visit the Yahoo sign-in page (mlogin.yahoo.com).
  2. Tap I can't access my account.
  3. Tap Reset your password.
  4. In the search field, enter your Yahoo ID, tap OK.
  5. Enter the CAPTCHA code, tap OK.
  6. Tap your alternate email address, tap OK.
  7. Go to the inbox for your alternate email address and look for an email from Yahoo.
  8. Open the email, read the instructions, then click the link.
  9. Enter a new password, tap OK.
  10. Tap Done.

Secret questions

If you don't have secret questions on file, this reset option won't be available in Password Helper.

  1. Visit the Yahoo sign-in page (mlogin.yahoo.com).
  2. Tap I can't access my account.
  3. Tap Reset your password.
  4. In the search field, enter your Yahoo ID, tap OK.
  5. Enter the CAPTCHA code, tap OK.
  6. Tap Answer secret questions, tap OK.
  7. Answer the first security question, tap OK.
  8. Answer the second security question, tap OK.
  9. Enter a new password, tap OK.
  10. Tap Done.

After you reset your password, you'll need to update your sign-in information on your mobile apps since they won't automatically update.
