Network connection failure when accessing Yahoo Mail on a mobile device

To keep your information private, we've updated our servers to require a secure connection (HTTPS) when accessing Yahoo Mail from a mobile device or mail client. If you're using an unsecured connection, you'll receive a connection-related error when attempting to connect to Yahoo Mail. 

Fix connection issues

Yahoo Mail app for Android

iOS Mail app

  Important: Update to the latest version of iOS. Older versions use outdated settings, causing this error. For assistance updating iOS, contact your phone's manufacturer.

After you've updated iOS, remove and re-add Yahoo Mail on your device.

Remove your account

  1. Tap Settings | Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
  2. Tap your Yahoo Mail account.
  3. Tap Delete Account.
  4. Tap Delete to confirm.

Re-add your account

  1. Tap Settings | Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
  2. Tap Add Account | Yahoo.
  3. Enter your name, full email address, password, and your full email address in the "Description" field.
  4. Tap Next.
  5. Tap Save.

Android Mail app

  Important: Update to the latest version of Android your device supports (4.0.3 or higher). Older versions use outdated settings, causing this error. For assistance updating your device's OS, contact your phone's manufacturer.

After you've updated your OS, remove and re-add Yahoo Mail on your device. The steps are different depending on the device, carrier, and OS version you have installed.

Remove your account

  1. Tap Settings
  2. From the "Accounts" section, tap Email.
  3. Tap your Yahoo Mail account.
  4. Tap Remove account.
  5. Tap Remove account to confirm.

Re-add your account

  1. Tap Settings.
  2. From the "Accounts" section, tap Add account.
  3. Tap Email.
  4. Tap Others.
  5. Enter your full email address and password, then tap Next.
  6. Select how often the app checks for new mail, then tap Next.
  7. Enter a description and your name, then tap Next.

Use the following info to update your Yahoo Mail server settings manually.

Web browsers on mobile devices

  • Some older device's browsers don't support secure connections.
  • Unsupported browsers will get a connection error when accessing Yahoo Mail.
  • If your device doesn't support HTTPS, you can still access Yahoo Mail from a computer.
