Change or reset your Yahoo password

 If you have an email account with one of our partners, you'll need to use different steps. See our partner support help article to learn more.

Your Yahoo password gives you access to every Yahoo service you've signed up for. You’ll need to know your password before you can update it, but there are ways to recover it online if you don't.

Change your Yahoo password

  1. Go to the Yahoo Account Information page.
  2. Click Account Security | Change password.
  3. Enter and confirm your new password, then click Continue.
    - You'll see a message that confirms your password change.
  4. Click Continue to finish.

Reset your forgotten password

Forgot your Yahoo account's password? Don't worry, just use our Password Helper to reset your password and regain access.

If you need a little more help, select one of the methods below for exact steps to securely verify your identity and reset your password.

Alternate email address

  1. Go to the Password Helper.
  2. Select I have a problem with my password, then click Next.
  3. Enter your Yahoo ID, then click Next.
  4. If prompted, enter the CAPTCHA code.
  5. Select your alternate email address, then click Next.
    - A "Reset your Yahoo password" will be sent to your alternate email address.
  6. Open the email, then click Reset My Password.
  7. Enter your new password, then click Next.

Mobile phone

If you don't have a mobile number on file, that reset option won't be available in Password Helper.

  1. Go to the Password Helper.
  2. Select I have a problem with my password.
  3. Select Reset your password.
  4. Enter your Yahoo ID, then click Next.
  5. If prompted, enter the CAPTCHA code.
  6. Select the mobile number you'd like to use, then click Next.
  7. Enter the missing 2 digits in your mobile number to verify it, then click Next.
    - An SMS text message with a verification code will be sent to your mobile number.
  8. Enter the verification code in the "Code sent to my mobile phone" field.
    Important: If you close the "Code sent to my mobile phone" page, you can continue where you left off.
  9. Click Next.
  10. Enter your new password, then click Next.

Secret questions

If you don't have secret questions on file, that reset option won't be available in Password Helper.

  1. Go to the Password Helper.
  2. Select I have a problem with my password.
  3. Enter your Yahoo ID, then click Next.
  4. If prompted, enter the CAPTCHA code.
  5. Select Use my secret questions, then click Next.
  6. Enter the answer to your secret questions, then click Next.
  7. Enter your new password, then click Next.
