Adding a Non-Verizon Yahoo! Mail Account

Want to simplify your life? Bring all your messages to one convenient location. Now read email from most external email accounts (that is, non-Verizon Yahoo! accounts) to which you have POP3 access (such as Outlook, Eudora, or Netscape Mail) in your Verizon Yahoo! Mail Inbox. This feature lets you send and read messages from all of your email accounts in one place. For example, you can use the Verizon Yahoo! Mail from home to access your POP mail account at work.

The Verizon Yahoo! Mail server retrieves messages from an external mail account for you to view in a web-based email client.

Sending Messages

To set up Verizon Yahoo! Mail to send email so that it appears to come from a non-Verizon Yahoo! mail account, you just need to provide a sender’s name and "reply-to" address, which Verizon Yahoo! Mail uses this email address to send messages so they appear to come from your external email account.

Retrieving Email

To set up Verizon Yahoo! Mail to access (receive) email from a non-Verizon Yahoo! mail account, you also need the following information about the external account:

  • Your username: This is different from your email address. Typically it is the text in your email address before the @ symbol.
  • Your password: The password is whatever you use to access your non-Verizon Yahoo! email account. It is not necessarily the same as your Verizon Yahoo! password.
  • The POP mail server name.
  • The POP mail server port: You only need this information if the port number is something other than 110.

The Verizon Yahoo! Internet Access technical support team doesn’t know (and can’t provide you with) information about your non-Verizon Yahoo! email accounts. Sorry. Contact your Internet service provider or network administrator if you need help gathering this information.

Tip: You can’t use Verizon Yahoo! Mail to retrieve messages from a web-based email account, such as Hotmail, or from another Verizon Yahoo! Mail account that hasn’t been set up for POP access. See the Accessing Verizon Yahoo! Mail tutorial for more information on setting up POP access for Verizon Yahoo! Mail accounts.

    • Server—the remote mail server where your external account, including that account’s email messages, is stored.

  3. Click the Save Changes button to finish adding the new account.

    Click the Send Code link.

Verizon Yahoo! Mail sends a message containing the verification code to the email address shown in the window (that is, the address associated with the non-Yahoo! account).

  2. To complete the verification process immediately:

    • Go to your non-Yahoo! email account and look for a message from Yahoo! Member Services.

    • Note the confirmation code in the message.

    • Enter the confirmation code in the box in Step 3 of the Verify Email Address window, then click the Done button.
