What are comments, and how do they work?

Comments are messages that you and your readers can append to your blog entries. Anyone can write a comment about an entry, including you!

Adding Comments

When your visitors view one of your blog entries, they'll see a corresponding "Comments" link next to a number. The number represents the number of comments that have been posted already. A visitor to your blog can click this link to write his own message about your entry and to read messages left by other readers.

You can add a comment to your own blog the same way or by using the tools in your Blog Manager. To add your own comment to one of your blog entries:

  1. Visit the Manage tab of your Web Hosting Control Panel.
  2. In the first module, click the "Blog Manager" link.

  3. Look for your Yahoo! 360° blog module. In that module, click the "Edit a blog entry" link.

  4. On the "Review Blog Entries" page, locate the entry for which you want to leave a comment (you may need to use the "Next" link at the top or bottom of the page to navigate to the entry you want).
  5. Click the corresponding "Comments" link.

  6. On the next page you can review all of the comments posted to that entry. To add your own, click the "Post a comment" link or just scroll to the bottom of the page and enter your message in the field provided.
  7. Click "Post Comment" to add your comment to this entry.

What's the Benefit?

A comment is not the same as a blog post (your readers can't add pictures or HTML, for example, and they can write comments only in response to your blog entries), but like a post, a comment can help you start a conversation with your readers — your friends, family, and customers. You can create a sense of community on your site by encouraging your readers to respond to each other's comments and leaving comments of your own.

Imagine, for example, that you write a blog entry about a new product available in your store. One of your readers appends a comment to that entry applauding the addition and asking if the product comes in blue. You can respond to that customer immediately through your blog: "Yes, it comes in blue, and also in red!" With your comment you have not only answered that reader's question (and posted the answer for other interested visitors to see) but also demonstrated that you're engaged with your site, your customers, and your business.
