Getting Started With Yahoo! Messenger for the Web

What Is... Getting to Yahoo! Messenger for the Web Using Audio Alerts Being Available to Instant Message Making the Most of Your Messenger List Quick Start

Being Available to Instant Message

You can begin instant messaging your friends as soon as you've signed into Yahoo! Messenger for the Web. But, do your friends know they can instant message you? They'll know by your online status.

Just as you see a contact's status on your Messenger List, others see your status on their Messenger Lists (in both the web version and the client). The first time you sign into Yahoo! Messenger for the Web, your status shows that you are Available (unless you signed in as Invisible). But, what happens if you need to leave for a moment or you're on the phone? You don't need to sign off; just let your contacts know your availability by setting your online status. Choose one of our status settings, or write your own.

Here's How

  1. To choose one of our settings, click the arrow to the right of the status box just under your sign in name, then select one of the options from the pull-down list.

Click the arrow to the right of the status box, then select an option.

The selected status shows in the box.
