Setting Your Status

Hey, are you there? Let your friends know whether or not you’re available to converse by setting your Messenger status. You can let them know when you’re ready to instant message or have a voice conversation. You can even let them know why you are or aren’t available by writing a personal status message. When you first sign into Yahoo! Messenger for Vista, your status is Available. Changing it is easy.

 

Here’s How

  1. In your Messenger window, click your current status found below your name.

    Click your current status.

  2. Select a status from the menu.

    Select a status from the status menu.

    Tip: If you select Invisible, Messenger italicizes all of the names on your list. Just a way to remind you that all of your friends think you’re offline.

    Your new status appears below your name in your Messenger window and your friends see your status in their lists.

What’s Next: Quickly Displaying a Status Message

To quickly display a status message, click the current status below your name, and then begin typing the status text. Messenger displays all status messages that match the text you type. Select the message you want from the list. Once you start adding personal status messages, you’ll find this approach an easy way to display a specific message.
