Creating Additional Disposable Addresses

Once you create a base name in AddressGuard, you can create as many as 500 disposable addresses and set different preferences for each.

Here’s How

  1. Go to the AddressGuard page in Yahoo! Mail Plus. (Remind me how.)

After the initial setup process, the AddressGuard page displays your base name and a list of the disposable addresses you've already created.

  2. To add another disposable address, click the Add button.

Click the Add button to add a new disposable address.

  3. On the first page that opens, type a keyword for the disposable address, then click the Continue button.

Enter a keyword to the base name to create a new disposable address.

Tip: For each address you create, it's a good idea to use a keyword that's specific for the Web site or email contact for which you plan to use the address.

  4. On the next screen, specify your delivery preferences for the new disposable address.

    • Deliver to: Select a folder where you want to direct all messages sent to this disposable address. The default delivery folder is Inbox.

    • Indicator: Assign a color code to all messages sent to this disposable address. This color code shows up next to the sender's name in the delivery folder. The default is no color.

    • Notes: Add a note to help you remember the purpose of this disposable address. For example, you can make note of the Web site for which you created it.

    • Allow messages to be sent from this address: Check this option if you want to use this address to send email messages from Yahoo! Mail Plus. The default is not to allow sending messages.

    • Use filters: Check this option if you want Yahoo! Mail Plus to apply your personal filters to the messages before delivering them. The default is to use filters.

    • Use SpamGuard: Check this option if you want SpamGuard to filter all messages sent to your disposable address. If SpamGuard identifies a message as spam, it delivers the message to your Spam folder, even though you set the Deliver to option for this address to a personal folder. The default is to use SpamGuard.

Tip: If you select both the Use filters and the Use SpamGuard options, Yahoo! Mail tries to apply your personal filters first, then the SpamGuard filter. If none of these filters apply, Yahoo! Mail delivers the messages to the destination folder that you've designated.

  5. Click the Set Up AddressGuard button to finish creating the address.

On the next page, you can create another disposable address by clicking the Add Another Disposable Address button, or return to the main AddressGuard page by clicking the Manage Disposable Addresses button.

On the AddressGuard page, the new address appears in your list of disposable addresses, along with a summary of the options you've selected.

The new disposable address appears in your list, along with a summary of the selected options.

What’s Next

You can change the preferences for a disposable address any time by selecting the address in the AddressGuard address list and clicking the Edit button.

Select a disposable address and click the Edit button.

If any of your disposable email addresses starts receiving spam, simply delete that address from AddressGuard. Future messages sent to the deleted address bounce back to the sender instead of filling up your Yahoo! Mail Plus account.
