Using Other Email Accounts With Yahoo! Mail

Adding Another Mail Account to Yahoo! Mail

The first step in sending and retrieving messages from an external email account is to add the account information to Yahoo! Mail.

If you plan to have Yahoo! Mail retrieve email from your other account, you’ll need to know the POP mail server for that account. This is the remote server where your account information and messages are stored. You’ll also need the mail server port number if the number is something other than 110. Unless the account is a Yahoo! account, Yahoo! Mail Customer Care won’t be able to provide you with this information. Contact your Internet service provider or network administrator if you need assistance.

Tip: You can’t use Yahoo! Mail to receive messages from a Web-based email account that hasn’t been set up for POP access.

Here’s How

  1. If you’re going to receive mail from another a Yahoo! Mail Plus account, ensure that the account is set up for POP access. For all other, non-Yahoo! email accounts, go directly to Step 2.

    • Sign into the other Yahoo! Mail Plus account.

    • In the upper-right corner of the Mail page, click the Options link, then select Mail Options from the menu.

    • Under the Management column of the Mail Options page, click the Pop Access and Forwarding link.

    • Make sure the Web & POP Access option is selected, then click the Save button.

Ensure that Web & POP Access is selected.

    • Sign out of this Yahoo! Mail account.

  2. Sign in to the Yahoo! Mail account into which you want to access the external account.

  3. In the upper-right corner of the your Mail page, click the Options link, then select Mail Options from the menu.

    The Mail Options page opens.

  4. Under the Management column on the Mail Options page, click the Mail Addresses link.

The Mail Accounts page appears. Notice that you already have one account, your Yahoo! Mail account. This is a permanent account.

The right side of this page provides the Sending and Receiving information of the selected account.

  5. To add a new account, click the Add button.

Click the Add button to begin adding a new mail account.

Once the account is added to Yahoo! Mail, you’ll see the name and email address displayed as an option for the From box when you compose an email message. This allows you to send email from the other address while working in your Yahoo! Mail account. Your recipients will see the email coming from the other address, and their replies will be sent to that account.

  8. In Step 3, if you want Yahoo! Mail to retrieve messages from the external account, provide the information that follows, then click the Setup Mail Server button. Otherwise, click the Skip This Step button.

Tip: If the email address in #1 on the Verify Account page isn’t correct, click the Edit Address button, make your correction, then continue.

Yahoo! Mail sends a verification message to the external account so you can confirm that you are the owner of the account.

  10. Check your external account for the verification message from Yahoo! Mail, and follow the instructions in the message to complete the verification process.

When the new account has been successfully added, it appears on the Mail Accounts page.

The newly added account appears on the Mail Accounts page.
