Working With Drafts and Sent Messages

Working With Messages in the Sent Folder

When you send an email message, by default Yahoo! Mail automatically saves a copy of the message in the Sent folder. You can reply to, forward, and delete messages in the Sent folder.

You can also move messages from the Sent folder into other folders. This is helpful for organizing related messages. For example, say you are organizing a reunion. You can create a Reunion folder and move all of the messages that you’ve sent about the event from the Sent folder into the Reunion folder. (You can also move related incoming email into the Reunion folder.)

Here’s How

  1. Click Sent (Sent folder icon) under Folders on the left side of the main Yahoo! Mail page.

    Click the Sent folder.

The Sent folder opens, displaying all the messages you’ve sent that you haven’t already deleted or removed.

  2. You can reply to, forward, or delete a message. These steps are the same as those described in the Receiving Email Messages tutorial.

Tip: Unlike other mail folders that show you who sent the message, the Sent folder shows who you sent the message to. Keep this in mind when replying to a sent message. Because you are the sender of the message, a Reply to Sender sends the reply to you. If you want to reply to others who received the message, you might want to use the Reply to Everyone option.

The Sent folder shows who you sent the message to.

  3. You can move a message to another folder. These steps are described in the Managing Your Mailbox tutorial.

Tip: You cannot move messages from other folders into the Sent folder.

  4. If you don’t want to keep your sent messages, you can stop Yahoo! Mail from saving your sent messages. Do this in the Sent folder by clicking the Turn Save Sent Items OFF link just under the Sent Items label.

Click the Turn Save Sent Items OFF.

This unchecks the Save option in your General Preferences accessed through the Options link in the upper-right side of the page.

Tip: If you turn Save Sent Items off, remember to send yourself copies (or blind copies) of any outgoing messages that are important to you. You’ll receive these as incoming email.

What’s Next

Use the Draft folder to hold your unfinished email messages until you are ready to send them, and the Sent folder to help you track the messages you send.
