Importing Contacts From Another Address Book

The import function lets you import contact information from any of the following applications and files into your Yahoo! Address Book:

  • Outlook Express
  • Outlook 97, 98, and 2000
  • Outlook 2002 (XP)/2003
  • Palm Desktop 2.0 or higher
  • Netscape Address Book
  • Yahoo! CSV

Before you can import contact information from any of the above applications, you must export the data from the application into specific types of files. For example, to import content information from Outlook you must first open Outlook and export the information into a Comma Separated Values or .csv file. To import content information from your Palm Desktop application, you must export the information from that application into a vCard or .vcf file.

Here’s How

  1. In your Yahoo! Address Book, click the Import/Export link at the top right.

    Click the Import/Export link.

    The Import/Export page opens.

  2. If you have not already done so, open the selected application—for example, Microsoft Outlook—and export the contact list.

For help exporting contacts from one of the listed applications, click the relevant link on the right side of the page.

    Click a help link.

The online help guides you through the process of exporting contact information for the selected application.

  3. In Yahoo! Mail, under the Import section, select the name of the application from which you want to import a contact list.

Select an application from which to import contacts.

Tip: Use the vCard (.vcf file) format for the Palm Desktop.

  4. To specify the file to import, click the Browse button, navigate to the file containing the exported contact data, and select it.

Click Browse to locate the file.

This copies the selected file name into the Specify the file to import field.

  5. Click the Import Now button.

    Click Import Now.

Yahoo! imports the contacts and returns you to your Yahoo! Address Book.

  6. Repeat the above steps for each application from which you want to import contact information.
