Introducing Categories

Do you often send email to a group of contacts? Do you send email to that same group of contacts on a regular basis? If you answered yes to these questions, then you might want to group these contacts into a category so that you can easily send emails to the same group over and over. A category is a list (small or large) of contacts from your Yahoo! Address Book. Use categories to:

  • Send the same email to more than one person at the same time. The Working With Categories tutorial shows you how.

  • Organize contacts for easier viewing. This tutorial shows you how to create populate categories.

The Yahoo! Address Book includes several predefined categories:

  • All: contains all the contacts in your Address Book whether or not they are assigned to other categories.
  • Unfiled: contains the contacts in your Address Book that you have not assigned to another category.
  • Trash: temporarily contains deleted contacts before they are permanently removed from your Address Book. Contacts in this category are not in your All or Unfiled category.

Note: You can’t send email to the Yahoo!-defined categories. Of course you can send emails to the contacts listed in these categories.

Each contact is automatically included in the All category. You can also add a contact in as many of your own categories as you like, so a Work contact can also be a Friends contact. You can have up to 1000 categories in your Yahoo! Address Book each containing up to 100 contacts, so don’t be stingy.
