Changing Your Profile Photo

Adding and Removing Photos Choosing an Image Creating and Customizing Your Avatar

Adding and Removing Photos

When you first create your profile on Yahoo!, the area where a display image would be appears as a blank square. You may want to add a few pictures from your personal collection to your profile photo carousel, so you’ll have a choice of images to display on your profile card.

Your profile card initially shows a blank square.

Your display image is always visible on your profile—there is no way to block others from seeing it (unless you hide your profile). Since everyone can see your photo, you’ll probably want to give some thought to what you choose to display. Remember that your display image is your visual representation of YOU! Would you show the photo to your grandmother? How about your boss? Avatars are also a great, fun way to represent who you are.

Tip: For more ideas about choosing appropriate photos for your profile, see the Yahoo! Online Safety site.

Here’s How

To add a photo:

  1. Move your cursor over the photo area and click the Change Photo link that appears in the bottom-left corner. (If you’re new to profiles, you can click anywhere in the blank, yellow square.)

    Click the Change Photo link.

The Select Photo window opens. Initially, your only choices will be a gray square and your avatar. If you don’t have an avatar, you’ll see the browse window shown in Step 3. Learn more

  2. Click the Add Photo link (If you don’t see this option, go to Step 3).

    Click the Add Photo link.

  3. Click the Browse button and navigate through your computer’s file system until you find an image you want to upload.

    Click the Browse button.

    Notes:

The way that browsing for image files works depends on your computer’s operating system.

The image file you select must be in JPEG or PNG format and must be smaller than 5 MB.

  4. Once you’ve chosen a photo file, type the text displayed in the box, then click the Upload button to add it to the photos available for your profile.

    Click the Upload button.

A preview of the uploaded photo appears, including a dotted square outlining the currently selected portion of the image.

  5. Manipulate the selection square to enclose the part of the image you want to use.

Drag a corner of the square to change the size of the selected area; drag the box around to select the part of the image you want.

  6. When you’ve got the part of the image you want to use within the selection square, click the Crop button.

    Click the Crop button.

The newly added photo appears in your photo carousel.

A new photo appears in your photo carousel.

  7. Repeat steps 2 through 6 to add a whole gallery of photos to your carousel.

To remove a photo:

Tip: You can’t remove the gray smiley square or your avatar, if you have one.

  1. Click the Change Photo link to open the Select Photo window.

  2. Select the photo you want to remove from your carousel.

    Select a photo to delete.

  3. Click Remove to delete the selected photo.

    Click Remove.

The photo carousel redisplays and the removed photo is gone.

  4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 to remove as many photos as you want.
