Finding Other People’s Profiles

It’s easy to find your own profile: just sign in to Yahoo! and go to profiles.yahoo.com. But how do you get to see other people’s profiles?

Tip: Finding and viewing your connections’ profiles is also easy—they’re right on your profile page. See the Connecting With Others tutorial for more information.

Here’s How

  1. In the Find People box on the My Profile page or the Updates page, type the first name, last name, display name, or email address of the person you’re trying to find and then click the Search button.

Click in the Find People box.Type the search information, then click Search.

The Search Results page appears, displaying any results that match your search text.

Tip: Be as precise as you can. The search results return all names containing the characters you typed.

What’s Next

Tip:

If you know your friend’s email address and that address is searchable, you can go directly to her profile by typing profiles.yahoo.com/email_address in the address field of your browser. For example, if your friend’s email is adrian.middlefield@ymail.com, you can get to her profile by entering the following:

Enter http://profiles.yahoo.com/adrian.middlefield@ymail.com in the address field.

This also works for aliases.

People can search for your profile using a special URL.

  • Alias: a unique name that identifies you to others when you don’t want to share your Yahoo! ID. You might, for example, prefer to use an alias in a chat room or on a message board.
  • Display name: a personal nickname of your choosing that appears on your profile on Yahoo!; protects the privacy of your real name from people you don’t know.
  • Email address: A contact’s address that identifies an electronic location where email can be sent. An email address includes the contact’s email name followed by the "@" followed by the contact’s email domain, such as "person@domain.com".
