What Are Guestbooks?
You’ve seen a guestbook before, haven’t you? You stay at a homey bed and breakfast, and the guestbook is sitting on the coffee table or maybe it’s a unique tourist attraction with the guestbook at the exit. In it, you can write a comment about your visit, and then you can thumb through the pages to see what others have written.
The guestbook in your profile on Yahoo! is very similar. Depending on your profile’s settings, visitors can view your guestbook and write a short comment. Even you can add a note or two to your own guestbook. When you visit a friend’s profile on Yahoo!, you can leave a comment to let them know you stopped by.
The difference between writing a comment in a guestbook and sending a private message through the profile, is that the guestbook can be viewed by others (depending on your settings) and the private message is, well, private; only you and the sender or recipient know about it.
