Adding Yahoo! Applications

What Are Yahoo! Applications? Adding a New Yahoo! Application Adding an Already Installed Yahoo! Application After You Add a Yahoo! Application Removing Yahoo! Applications

If You’re Adding a New Yahoo! Application

You might find a Yahoo! Application in the My Yahoo! content gallery that you haven’t seen before and, after previewing it, decide to add it to your tab. Because it’s an app that you haven’t installed already in My Apps, you have a few extra steps to go through after adding the content to your page to get the app up and running in My Yahoo!.

Here’s How

  1. Find an application that you’d like to install in the My Yahoo! content gallery. (Remind me how.)

  2. Do one of the following:

    • If you’re viewing the app’s preview, click within the preview window, then click the Add button that appears.

      Click the Add button.

    • If you’re not viewing a preview, click the Add button above the app in the content gallery.

      Click the Add button.

The app is added at the top of your My Yahoo! tab, but it isn’t quite ready to use yet—you still need to install it.

  3. Click the Click here to use this Application link within the app.

    Click the application’s installation link.

A window appears that includes links to legal information about the app and its developer. The window also shows the levels of access to your profile on Yahoo! and personal information that you’ll be granting the application if you install it.

Review the legal information and enable or disable updates.

  4. Select the Share my activity via Yahoo! Updates option if you want to let this app share updates with your connectionsLearn more

Note: Not all apps support sharing updates, so you may not see this option for the app you’re installing.

  5. After you’ve reviewed the legal information, click the I Agree button to install the app or Cancel to cancel the installation.

    Click I Agree or Cancel.

The full view of the application opens, where you can configure it and otherwise get familiar with what it does.

Note: Each app has its own features and setting options, so we can’t really tell you what to do next—you’ll need to look at the information that the app’s developer provides to learn more about how to use it.

Some apps were built by Yahoo!, but members of the Yahoo! Developer Network have created most of them. This accounts for the wide variety of apps that are available, and for the differences in how you use each application.

  6. When you’re ready to return to the small view of the app in My Yahoo!, select Back to My Yahoo! from the app’s Options menu.

Select Back to My Yahoo! from the app’s Options menu.

The full app view closes and you’re returned to My Yahoo! with the small view of the app up and running.

What’s Next

Once you’ve added a Yahoo! Application to My Yahoo!, you can treat it like any other unit of content: drag and drop it to another location on the tab, share it with friends, and so on. See the Managing Content tutorial for more information.
