Controlling Your Message History

By default, Yahoo! Messenger for the Web automatically archives all of your instant message conversations. You can turn the history off or on at your discretion.

Note: Controlling archiving in Yahoo! Messenger for the Web doesn’t affect how archiving works in the Yahoo! Messenger client.

Here’s How

  1. Click the History button near the top-right of the page.

Click the History button near the top-right of the page.

    The My History tab opens.

  2. In the My History tab, click the Options button.

    Click the Options button.

    The History window opens.

  3. In the History window, uncheck Enable Message History, then click the Done button.

Uncheck Enable Message History, then click the Done button.

Messenger no longer archives your instant message conversations. It continues to keep your previous history.

What’s Next

We’re sure you have a good reason to disable the history feature, but are you sure you aren’t going to need that conversation at a later date? Remember, once you’ve archived it, you can always go back to it.
