Adding contacts to your Messenger List is easy. You can add both Yahoo! users and Windows Live™ users in one of the following ways:
If you know the person’s -Yahoo! or Windows Live ID, use the Add button below your Messenger List.
If you receive an instant message from someone not on your list, and you want to add that person’s name to your list, use the Add button in the conversation tab.
If you receive a request to be added to someone’s Messenger List, use the Accept button in the conversation tab. When you allow a person to add your name to his or her list, you must add that person’s name to your list.
Note: For those of you who use the Messenger client, your Messenger List is identical to your client version. When you add a contact name or make any changes to names or groups, the changes show up in both the web and client versions.
To add a person when you know the ID:
In the Yahoo! Messenger for the Web page, click the Add button under your Messenger List, then select Yahoo! Contact or Windows Live Contact.

A new line opens in your Messenger List.

Type the person’s ID, then press the Enter key.

Note: Some IDs have domains other than @yahoo.com, such as @sbcglobal.net, @verizon.net, or @msn.com. When typing these IDs, be sure to include the full domain (person1@sbcglobal.net, person2@verizon.net, person3@msn.com). For IDs that use the @yahoo.com domain, you can type just the characters before the @ symbol.
The name moves to the correct place in the list. Note that it is initially part of the Friends group. You can move the name into another group by moving the cursor over the name, clicking the arrow, and choosing Move To Group > GroupName from the menu.
To add a contact from the conversation tab:
If you receive an instant message from someone who is not on your Messenger List, or you receive a request to have your name added to someone’s list, a conversation tab opens in your Messenger page. In both cases, you can add the person’s name to your list.
If you receive an instant message from an unknown person and you want to add the name to your list, click the Add button, then select a group from the pull-down list.

Your Messenger List shows the person’s ID and the new group if you created one.
If you receive a request to be added to someone’s Messenger List and you agree to the request, click the Accept button, then select a group from the pull-down list.

Your Messenger List displays the person’s ID and the new group if you created one.
Note: To create a new group, select the New Group option
from the pull-down list, type the name in the box that appears,
then click the Create button.
The ID displays in your Messenger List immediately. However, the contact whose name you’ve added must allow you to add his or her name. If the person agrees, the name becomes a permanent part of your list. If the person declines, the name disappears from your list. Of course, you have the same option when someone wants to add your name to his or her list.
If you don’t want to receive messages from a person, click the Block or Decline button. This adds the person’s ID to your Ignore List (the Decline button gives you an opportunity to block instant messages). You’ll need to use the Yahoo! Messenger client to remove a name from your Ignore List. For more on blocking, take a look at the Instant Messaging With Your Contacts tutorial.
