Yahoo! Updates is a service that lets you keep in touch with friends and share your interests in the world of Yahoo!. Your friends can learn when you’ve voted on a news item, changed your avatar, and more. Just as you can view your friends’ Updates, they can view yours through their Yahoo! Messenger client (if they’re using Messenger 9). You can control the Updates your friends see.
Notes: You must have a profile on Yahoo! before you can manage
your Updates.
Some Yahoo! sites allow you to mark content public or
private where you created or uploaded it. Yahoo! Updates never shares
anything you mark private, even if you choose to share public content
from that site.
If you don’t already have a profile on Yahoo!, create one.
In your main Messenger window, select Manage Updates I Broadcast from the Messenger menu. (You can also find this link in the Privacy category of the Preferences window and on your Contact Card.)
The Manage My Updates page opens in a Web browser.
Choose the Updates you want to share and who you’d like to share with;
If you’d like to share Updates, keep the Share My Updates box checked, and then fine tune your visibility by making a choice—Anyone, My Connections, No One—from the pull-down list to the right of each Update type.

To view and manage all sources used for Updates, click the Show All Yahoo! Sources link.

If you want to opt out of Update sharing, uncheck the Share My Updates box.

If you later decide to share Updates again, just reselect the Share My Updates option.
Click the Save button.
If a friend is sharing Updates, you’ll see the Updates in Messenger in a two places:
Beside your friend’s name on your Messenger List unless your friend has written a status message which displays instead.
In your friend’s contact card.
